MTSU alumna Logan Key was in the news recently following a
harrowing experience during medical mission trip to Africa. Key is a 2010
graduate of the MTSU Honors College with bachelor’s degrees in biology and
chemistry.
According to a story in the Johnson City (Tenn.) Press, Key,
now a medical school student studying at East Tennessee State University,
became trapped against her will inside the gates of hotel in Kenya.
The Quillen College of Medicine student went to Kenya in
late July to take part in the Medics to Africa program. A payment dispute
between the director of the program and the owner of the hotel led to Key being
held hostage at the hotel, along with two other medical students.
ETSU has said it will no long participate in the Medics to
Africa program.
