MURFREESBORO — The latest
edition of the award-winning MTSU Magazine includes a salute to the many
professionals and programs at MTSU aimed at helping military veterans make the
successful transition from combat to the classroom.
This edition also is
making a transition: It’s the first one also to be available via a new Android
app, featuring free digital content unavailable in the print version.
MTSU’s leadership
among Tennessee schools in providing support to student veterans is both timely
and relevant to the state’s ongoing efforts to retain and graduate students as thousands
of military troops return from active duty around the world.
MTSU was the first
institution in the state — and one of the first in the country — to partner
with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ new “VetSuccess on Campus”
program, which helps veterans adjust to college logistically and emotionally.
MTSU is now the first choice in higher education for Tennessee’s veterans, and for three consecutive years, G.I. Jobs magazine has designated it a “military-friendly campus.”
Drew Ruble, senior
editor of university publications, is the editor of MTSU Magazine, which he
develops in close partnership with the university’s Creative and Visual
Services staff, led by director Kara Hooper.
“We believe this
latest edition of the magazine furthers the publication’s efforts to
successfully explore the breadth and depth of MTSU’s impact on the community,”
Ruble said, "plus, it makes for an interesting read!”
Other articles in
the July 2013 edition of MTSU Magazine detail the university’s efforts to fill
the many vacant technology jobs available in the Nashville marketplace — a key
initiative of the local business community — as well as outline the top
priorities of each academic college amid the university’s ongoing $80 million
Centennial Campaign.
The magazine also includes
features on:
· MTSU’s resident reggae expert;
· former Blue Raiders now playing
professional sports;
· a special fan’s guide to MTSU’s
move to Conference USA for athletics;
· a professor’s coast-to-coast drive
powered exclusively by sun and water; and
· a roundup of MTSU’s most
noteworthy recent awards, achievements and news.
Readers may also download MTSU Magazine free for
their iPads and Android devices. The MTSU Mag app, available in the iTunes
store (http://tinyurl.com/MTMagITunesApp) and now at Google Play (http://tinyurl.com/MTMagAndroidApp),
includes special multimedia content built into every issue that’s not available
in the print editions.
Printed copies of MTSU Magazine, which has been
recognized for excellence by the Tennessee College Public Relations
Association, the Nashville Public Relations Society of America and the Council
for Advancement and Support of Education, are distributed twice annually to
more than 100,000 alumni readers.
The publication also is distributed to interested community
members, including state lawmakers and members of the Tennessee Board of
Regents.
MTSU Magazine also is available online at www.mtsumagazine.com.
