MURFREESBORO — The
beauty and creativity of various Chinese groups will be on full display at MTSU
this Saturday.
“Southern Impressions: A Chinese Music and Dance Ensemble”
will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hinton Music Hall in MTSU’s
Wright Music Building.
The event is free and open to the public. A searchable

The evening’s entertainment will consist of 10 separate
performances of traditional Chinese music and dancing celebrating the cultures of
various Chinese ethnicities.
Segments include a pas de deux (two dancers) called ”The
Peacocks’ Dance”; a soprano solo titled “Dragon Boat Song;” a baritone solo
called “Swan Goose”; and a martial arts performance.
At the conclusion, dancers will perform a Tibetan dance
followed by the distribution of Tibetan silk scarves to audience members as
symbols of friendship and respect. Finally, the audience will be invited to
join the dancers on stage for a Tibetan tap dance.
“Southern Impressions” is presented by Hunan Normal
University and is sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International. It
is hosted by the Confucius Institute at MTSU, the MTSU School of Music and the
Center for Chinese Music and Culture.
