[300] ‘MTSU On the Record’ guest discusses food inequality in America

MURFREESBORO — An MTSU student who pours knowledge from his academic discipline into feeding the hungry will be the guest on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Nicholas Rush, a senior dietetics major, will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Rush serves as a youth ambassador for No Kid Hungry, a campaign run by the national nonprofit organization Share Our Strength. The group’s activities include research, advocacy, education and providing school meals, afterschool meals and summer meals for children. He was placed with No Kid Hungry through the Tennessee Justice Center in Nashville.

“I’m actually working on the ‘Breakfast after the Bell’ program to increase breakfast participation in counties all across Tennessee,” Rush said. “So, last semester, I was doing a lot of research with the counties that were doing well with their breakfast participation and … also counties that were not doing well.”
