MT Engage is
giving students a chance to showcase their academic talents for an opportunity
to receive thousands in scholarship funds.
Students have until Feb. 15 to apply for MT Engage scholarships
created in support of the university’s latest Quality Enhancement Plan. MT Engage encourages integrative learning
and for its students to reflect on experiences inside and outside the
classroom.
"We
have remarkable students in MT Engage courses … MT Engage scholarships
recognize students for the quality of their academic engagement," MT
Engage Director Mary Hoffschwelle
said.
MT Engage will award up to 15 scholarships valued at $6,000
each to students interested in presenting skills learned through MT
Engage courses. The
minimum of two scholarships will be awarded in each academic college and one
overall winner will be chosen.
Scholarships
will be paid at the rate of $1,500 per semester for four semesters.
Also, students who apply and meet the application criteria will receive priority
registration for classes needed for their next semester. To apply for the MT
Engage scholarship you must:
· Have successfully
completed two or more MT Engage course sections
· Have attended one
approved e-Portfolio training or workshop
· Have a minimum GPA
of 2.75
· Have completed your
60th hour in Fall 2017 or are completing your 60th hour in Spring 2018
·
Are currently enrolled as a student at MTSU with good academic
standing
Applicants must create an e-Portfolio presentation to submit with their application. The
e-Portfolio serves as an electronic record created by students throughout their
academic journey to serve as an important tool in marketing themselves toward a
career or graduate degree.
"I’m
looking forward to seeing how the scholarship recipients use their e-Portfolios
to reflect on their learning, and supporting their continued learning here at
MTSU," said Hoffschwelle.
The goals
of MT Engage include fostering a culture of engaged learning and integrative
thinking, enhancing student satisfaction with their learning, and increasing
retention and graduation rates.
The QEP is a requirement by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools Commission on Colleges, or SACSCOC, the regional accreditation body
for higher education institutions in the South.
