MURFREESBORO — MTSU
students will have an opportunity to take a unique look at Japanese culture
through an increasingly popular fashion style.
Sebastian Masuda, founder of the fashion line 6%DOKIDOKI, will
speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the State Farm Lecture Hall of MTSU’s
Business and Aerospace Building. This event is free and open to the public.
Masuda, who also is the art director for Japanese pop star
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, created his line with an eye toward wild colors and urban
street culture.
6%DOKIDOKI is characteristic of Kawaii culture. “Kawaii” is
the Japanese word for “cute” or “adorable,” and the trend is growing in
acceptance in a country better known for more traditional elements of culture.
This event is sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan
and MTSU’s Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. For more
information, contact the department at 615-898-2981 or Dr. Jeremy Sather,
assistant professor of Japanese, at jeremy.sather@mtsu.edu.
