MURFREESBORO — MTSU
will offer a glimpse into the living and working spaces of the future as its
students show off their creativity and style.
The MTSU Student Chapter ASID/IIDA 2014 Interior Design Student
Showcase is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in the McWherter
Learning Resources Center. This event is free and open to the public.
“This is an opportunity for us to share what our interior
design students have accomplished with family and friends, the academic
community and the larger community,” said Deborah Belcher, chair of the Human Sciences
Department. “They’re learning the theory, skills and knowledge required for
jobs as professional interior designers.”
Computer-aided drawings, construction drawings, floor plans
and elevations, presentation boards and rendered perspectives will be in the
displays. The students include furniture and finish selections, textiles, light
fixtures, space planning and other factors in creating their designs.
“The job market for interior designers is on the rise,”
Belcher said. “While 2008 brought drastic changes in the economy, the pendulum
is swinging back toward more jobs in the profession.”
Twenty-six sophomores, juniors and seniors and several vendors
are slated to participate in the showcase, which will take place in rooms 107,
108, 109 and 112 and in the lobbies of the Learning Resources Center.
Refreshments will be available. For more information,
contact Belcher at 615-898-2302 or deborah.belcher@mtsu.edu.
