MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — MTSU Dance Theatre students and faculty and visiting
guest artist Alia Kache are
celebrating autumn with original works at the Fall Dance Concert, which is set Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in the university’s Tucker Theatre.
Performances begin
at 7:30 each evening. General-admission tickets for the Fall Dance Concert are
$10 for adults and $5 for K-12 students and MTSU faculty and staff. MTSU
students will be admitted free with a current student ID.
The 2017 Fall Dance
Concert will once again highlight original choreographic works from MTSU dance
faculty and selected students, along with Chattanooga, Tennessee, native Kache,
a respected dancer and choreographer who co-founded Renegade Performance Group,
danced with Ailey II and visited the MTSU
Dance Program in October.
The event also will
feature pieces that display the scope of MTSU’s dance training and the talents
of the university’s dance faculty in contemporary ballet, jazz and modern
dance.
MTSU faculty works
will include:
- “The Suppliants,” a piece by
Marsha Barsky, MTSU Dance Theatre artistic director, that is influenced
by Aeschylus' play “The Suppliant Women.”
- “Thel,” choreographed by dance faculty member Meg Brooker.
- “the heaven of a single mind” by ballet faculty member Jennifer McNamara, which draws inspiration from
the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
- “Carmen and Maria”
by dance lecturer Chell Parkins, which
draws inspiration from Carmen Yulín Cruz’ reaction to the lack of relief
efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
- “All That You Touch,” a duet by dance instructor Kelvin Amburgey that showcases the
dancers’ physical and emotional prowess.
“The MTSU Dance
Theatre aims to enrich our campus and local community’s appreciation of concert
dance by providing high-quality performances that are designed to provoke
powerful feelings, stimulate senses and activate minds while celebrating the
dynamic range and diversity of our program,” Barsky said.
Tickets can be
purchased online at http://www.mtsuarts.com
