[520] Incoming MTSU professor discusses workplace bullying on ‘MTSU On the Record’

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A professor who could never be said to have “bullied” her way into a job will be the guest on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Michele Medina will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 9, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Medina, who will begin work this fall as an assistant professor in the Department of Management, chose workplace bullying as the topic of her doctoral dissertation.

Instead of focusing on either the perpetrators or the targets of workplace bullying, Medina concentrated on the workers who stand by and say and do nothing while their colleague is being tormented.

“I had prerecorded a set of videos that depicted either a neutral co-worker interaction, a bystander or a bullying incident between co-workers,” said Medina. “The participants would come in. They would watch the videos, and then they would answer a set of questions based on the videos.”

Medina comes to MTSU from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where she was an adjunct professor in the Department of Management.
