[504] ‘MTSU On the Record’ highlights student’s sleepy-time success story

MURFREESBORO — An MTSU student whose class project led to a brand new product and marketing campaign will be the guest on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Colton Anderson, co-creator of “Snooze Snack,” will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, June 25, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Anderson, a senior finance major from Centerville, Tennessee, received an “A” for his marketing proposal for a granola bar with sleep-inducing ingredients. He is seeking a patent from the U.S. Patent Office and approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the item, which he started to create about four years ago.

Troy Anderson, Colton’s father, gave him business advice, and his friend, Nashville Omni Hotel Chef Travis Tanner, gave him culinary advice.

The granola bar weighs only 25 grams, smaller than most commercial granola bars, but Anderson said he believes this is the right size for “Snooze Snack.”

“We made the snack more potent and smaller so that people wouldn’t have to worry about the calorie intake before bed for people who are diet-conscious,” Anderson said.
