[512] Musician/student changes his tune on ‘MTSU On the Record’

MURFREESBORO — A business administration major who doubles as a recording artist is changing his tune on the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dylan Russell will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 2, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Russell, who grew up in Savannah, Missouri, and lives in Nashville, gained attention in the country music field in 2014 with the song “Gravel Roads and Pastures” from the album “Keep Me in Mind.”

However, after a life-altering relationship, he has shifted to a kind of electronic pop in his new extended play disc “An Exhibit of My Mistakes.”

“It’s not that anybody or anything pressured me to feel constrained (while) creating the first album,” said Russell. “When you want to make it in the music industry as an artist, sometimes you see other people in the genre that you’re in, and a lot of them look the same.”
