[388] Stones River Chamber Players conclude MTSU season with free April 6 concert

MURFREESBORO — The Stones River Chamber Players, MTSU’s ensemble in residence, will conclude their 2014-15 season with a free public concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, in Hinton Music Hall inside MTSU's Wright Music Building.

The ensemble members, all of whom teach in MTSU’s School of Music, will include the premiere performance of “Out of the Blue” by Günter Möll.

MTSU music faculty Deanna Little, Andrea Dawson, Todd Waldecker and William Yelverton will be featured in the Möll piece, with Little on flute, Dawson on violin, Waldecker on clarinet and Yelverton on guitar.

“This is his (Möll's) best and most challenging chamber work to date,” said Yelverton. “He combines jazz influenced melody with complex rhythms, driving pedal tones and crescendoing ostinatos. His style is hard to describe, but I find it modern, yet accessible.

“The piece ranges from austere and intense, to quirky and humorous. Since Möll is a guitarist, he really composes well for the instrument, and the guitar takes a very important and sometimes central role in this piece. It's a great addition to guitar chamber music repertoire."

The Stones River Chamber Players also will present Peter Schickele’s “Clarinet Quartet” at the April 6 concert, when Waldecker and Dawson will perform with Christine Kim on cello and Adam Clark on piano.

"I've always enjoyed the compositional language of Schickele,” said Waldecker. “This quartet beautifully illustrates both his sensitive and quirky styles."
