MURFREESBORO — The
MTSU Dance Theatre is celebrating 10 years of dancing at MTSU and around the
world with a special Fall Dance Concert Nov. 21-23 featuring a selection from
the Dance Theatre of Tennessee and an "eclectic array of work" from
campus choreographers.
“We are thrilled to foster this new partnership with DTT (the Dance
Theatre of Tennessee) as they perform ‘The Waltz of the Flowers’ from Act II of
the holiday favorite ‘The Nutcracker’ on opening night,” said Professor Marsha
Barsky, director of the MTSU Dance Program.
“While each choreographer has explored her own theme for her dance, each
piece reflects the transfiguration of experience through a panoply of styles,
sensibilities and compositions. The result is a concert filled with carefully
crafted dances that are dynamic, timeless and cutting-edge."
Performances are
scheduled Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 21-23, in MTSU’s Tucker Theatre at 7:30 each
evening. You can buy tickets online at http://www.mtsu.edu/tuckertheatre
or at the Tucker Theatre box office one hour before each show.
General admission
tickets for the 2013 Fall Dance Concert are $10 for adults and $5 for children up to 12th grade,
as well as $5 for MTSU staff and faculty. MTSU students with valid IDs will be
admitted free.
The MTSU Arts production will include “an eclectic array of work from faculty and student
choreographers,” Barsky said.
“Our performers work
hard to acknowledge the past, revel in the present and carve out new pathways
into the future,” she continued.
The nationally recognized program, which focuses on research and
creative activity by faculty and students, is kicking off its 10th anniversary
season with this special Fall Dance Concert. Performances will feature a
variety of genres ranging from classical ballet to contemporary dance and
everything in between.
