[223] MTSU choral/brass concert Nov. 10 offers special salute to veterans

MURFREESBORO — The MTSU Concert Chorale and the Middle Tennessee Choral Society will team with the MTSU Faculty Brass Quintet to present a special “Salute to Veterans” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, in Hinton Music Hall inside MTSU's Wright Music Building.

Tickets for the event are $10 for the general public. Admission is free for MTSU students, faculty and staff with a valid ID.

"We wanted to give this special salute as Veterans Day approaches on Nov. 11," said Dr. Raphael Bundage, director of choral activities and opera in MTSU's School of Music.

Bundage noted that some concert highlights will include Randall Thompson's "The Testament of Freedom," a choral work featuring the words of Thomas Jefferson, and Gabriel Fauré's "Requiem," along with "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Stars and Stripes Forever" and a choral version of the poignant World War I poem "In Flanders Fields."

The MTSU Faculty Brass Quintet will include Michael Arndt, trumpet; David Loucky, trombone; Jamey Simmons, trumpet; Angela DeBoer, horn; and Ben Miles, tuba.

The quintet will accompany the choruses on "Testament to Freedom" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and will perform instrumental versions of "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Impressions of a Parade" (based on the Civil War song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home") and "Stars and Stripes Forever."
