BANKS AND BAILOUTS TOPIC OF VISITING RESEARCHER AT MTSU Former ‘Boro Resident Walker Todd Tackles Timely Troubles as Economy Flounders

(MURFREESBORO) – Dr. Walker Todd, research fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER), will speak on “Are Federal Bailouts the Answer?: AIG, the Banks, and the Automakers” from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, in Room 106 of the Paul W. Martin Honors Building at MTSU. This event is free and open to the public.
An attorney and economic consultant in private practice in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Todd grew up in Murfreesboro. He has been associated with the Massachusetts-based AIER since 1995. From 1985-1994, he was assistant general counsel and research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Prior to joining the bank, Todd was an attorney in the legal department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 1974-1985. Todd has published extensively on banking, central banking and monetary topics, especially those related to international debt, the International Monetary Fund, and the regulation of the banking system and financial markets. His areas of specialization with the Federal Reserve Bank included the legal aspects of discount window and emergency lending, bankers’ acceptances, letters of credit and foreign exchange.
Todd holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a doctorate in French from Columbia University, and a doctorate of jurisprudence from Boston University School of Law.
