(MURFREESBORO)—Around 4 a.m. today, Friday, March 6, Middle Tennessee State University Police responded to a complaint that a female MTSU student had been sexually assaulted in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house on campus.
Follow-up work by investigators revealed that unwanted sexual contact may have occurred to the reported victim. While no particular suspect has been identified at this point, it is believed that any unwanted sexual contact likely involved an acquaintance of the victim. This investigation by the MTSU Police Department is still ongoing.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors to the university are reminded that more sexual assaults involving traditional college-age students occur among persons who have at least some relational ties. These risks of sexual assaults increase greatly with the abuse of alcohol in otherwise “safe” locations.
If you have any information about this incident, please contact MTSU Police at 615-898-2424.
