[341] ‘MTSU On the Record’ describes some underappreciated Founding Fathers

MURFREESBORO — The intellectuals who fashioned the hallmark document of American law will be discussed on the next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. John Vile, dean of the University Honors College and constitutional law scholar, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).

Vile is the author of “The Men Who Made the Constitution: Lives of the Delegates to the Constitutional Convention.” The book includes individual profiles of the 55 men whose collaboration replaced the inadequate Articles of Confederation with a document that established a more centralized federal government.

In explaining the difference between the creators of the Declaration of Independence and the creators of the Constitution, Vile said, “Those who grew up with the primary rhetoric being ‘overthrow the British’ had a somewhat different perspective than those who were around during the Articles of Confederation that didn’t seem to be working too well and were, perhaps, more interested in the strength of the national government.”
