MURFREESBORO — Get
ready to “Give Diabetes the Boot!” at a diabetes awareness event Sunday, Nov.
11.
Personnel from Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s Mobile
Health Unit will conduct free blood pressure and glucose checks at the
community gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lane Agri-Park Farmers’ Market, 315
John R. Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro.
Certified diabetes educators will provide cooking
demonstrations and informational sessions on healthy eating, self-management
and monitoring.
Diabetes is one of the fastest spreading illnesses in the
country. The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national
cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $174 billion.
Nearly 26 million children and adults in the U.S. have
diabetes. Another 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and are at risk for
developing Type 2 diabetes.
“Give Diabetes the Boot!” is presented by the Wellness
Council of Rutherford County with support from MTSU’s Adams Chair of Excellence
in Health Care Services and the Center for Health and Human Services.
