MURFREESBORO — The amazing power of high-school basketball to galvanize an entire town is the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record” with host Gina Logue at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, and 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Steve Allen will discuss “Maytown Magic and Mayhem: Fifty Years of Mountain Basketball,” a book he completed after the original author, Dr. Jack Justin Turner, passed away in December 2011.

Turner, a professor emeritus of international relations at MTSU, wrote this labor of love as a tribute to Maytown, Ky., where he played basketball as a youth. The history is replete with anecdotes about the notables who went on to major accomplishments as adults and the hijinks that characterized the town’s basketball mania.
