LAST AMERICAN TO LEAVE WAR-TORN RWANDA ON WMOT-FM
Carl Wilkens Discusses Brutality, National Renaissance on ‘MTSU on the Record’

MURFREESBORO—Carl Wilkens, the only American to remain in Rwanda when civil war erupted there in 1994, will be the guest on “MTSU on the Record” with host Gina Logue at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 7, and 8 a.m. Sunday, June 13 on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Wilkens, who shared his experiences with students and the public at MTSU on March 28, heads a Spokane-based nonprofit organization called World Outside My Shoes. The group is “committed to inspiring and equipping people to enter the world of ‘the other,’” according to its website, http://www.worldoutsidemyshoes.org/.

In addition, Wilkens is the recipient of the Dignitas Human Award from Saint John’s School of Theology Seminary and a 2005 Medal of Valor from the Simon Wiesenthal Center for his work.
