Italian mezzo-soprano, faculty tenor team for MTSU Symphony concert

MURFREESBORO— The MTSU Symphony and MTSU Chamber Orchestra will present a gala concert featuring Italian mezzo-soprano Caterina Novak and MTSU tenor H. Stephen Smith, a professor of voice at the University, on April 22.
The free public event will begin at 4 p.m. in the Hinton Music Hall inside MTSU’s Wright Music Building.
The singers will perform excerpts from Bizet’s “Carmen” and Puccini’s “La Boheme” with the symphony orchestra.
The concert also will feature MTSU students Maureen Moeller and Tara Kloostra performing concertos with the MTSU Chamber Orchestra on flute and French horn, respectively. Student Andrew England will be the French horn soloist for the “Scherzo” of Mahler's monumental “Fifth Symphony.”
The concert will conclude with the finale of Respighi's orchestral masterpiece, “Pines of Rome.”
