Jorge 'PopMaster Fabel' Pabon and Dr. Felicia Miyakawa 'Rap' on ‘MTSU On the Record’

(MURFREESBORO) – Jorge “PopMaster Fabel” Pabon, a hip-hop dancer, choreographer, historian and adjunct professor at New York University, will join Dr. Felicia Miyakawa, associate professor of musicology, for a discussion of the origins on hip-hop and its connection with gangs at 8 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 5, on “MTSU on the Record” with host Gina Logue on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Pabon is slated to show part of his new documentary “Apache Line: From Gangs to Hip-Hop” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the State Farm Lecture Hall of MTSU’s Business and Aerospace building. This event is free and open to the public.

Miyakawa, who is assistant director of the MTSU School of Music and faculty adviser for the MTSU B-boy/B-girl Club, says, “We scheduled this event especially because of the recent dialogue about gangs in the community, and we hope it will contribute to a positive conversation.”
