MTSU HISTORIANS SEEK WWII HOMEFRONT MEMORIES AND ITEMS
“MTSU on the Record” Discusses Rutherford County Wartime Mood, Lifestyles

(MURFREESBORO) – The search for World War II homefront memorabilia from Rutherford County residents is the focus of “MTSU on the Record” with host Gina Logue this Sunday, March 14, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).
Dr. Brenden Martin, history professor and director of the Public History Program, is guiding the efforts of his graduate students in convincing citizens to loan their artifacts for an exhibit to be displayed for six months at the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County starting Thursday, April 29. These could include gold star window signs, ration stamps or letters from loved ones, among other items.
In addition, the students will interview citizens about their wartime experiences at home for oral histories. Katherine Merzbacher, a doctoral candidate from Nashville, is project director, and Ashley Staley, a master’s candidate from Nashville, is working on publicity.
The project is also operating under the auspices of the Albert Gore Research Center and with a generous grant from MTSU’s Public Service Committee.
