AUGUSTANA, ALTERNATIVE ROCK BAND, TO PERFORM AT MTSU Nationally Acclaimed Quintet Scored with Hits “Boston” and “Sweet and Low”

(MURFREESBORO) – Augustana, whose singles “Boston” and “Sweet and Low” propelled them onto the national stage, will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at MTSU’s Tucker Theater in the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building. The five-man band that originated in Greenville, Ill., and is now based in San Diego has made appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and “The Today Show,” among other television appearances.
Augustana released its debut album, Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays, in 2005. Shortly thereafter, they signed a deal with Epic Records and a publishing deal with EMI. The group’s second album, All the Stars and Boulevards, reached the top position on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and the hit single from it, “Boston,” sold more than 1 million copies. A re-release of Midwest Skies and Sleepless Mondays followed in 2006. The hit singles “Sweet and Low” and “I Still Ain’t Over You” came from the band’s second album, Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt, which was released in 2008.
Lastfm.com describes Augustana’s sound as “at once contemplative and slow, but also captivating.” A review of Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt at thealbumproject.net opines, “Augustana are masterful songwriters whether you are a fan or not. In terms of the music, tone, and mood the band has perfected the dynamic of their songs to get the emotional response desired.”
Augustana is Dan Layus (vocals, piano, guitar), Jared Palomar (bass, vocals), Chris Sachtleben (guitar, mandolin), Justin South (vocals), and John Vincent (keyboard, vocals). The concert is presented by the MTSU Concerts Committee. Tickets are $5 each for students and $10 each for the public. To reserve tickets online, www.mtsu.edu/~events/augustana.html.
