MTSU TEACHING MATERIALS DEVELOPER GETS NATIONAL AWARD
Dr. Jackie Gilbert Brings Education into 21st Century with Cutting-Edge Resources
(MURFREESBORO) – Dr. Jackie Gilbert, professor in the Department of Management and Marketing at MTSU, is one of eight people at institutions of higher learning nationwide honored recently by the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT). Gilbert and seven other educators on the organization’s Business Editorial Board share the MERLOT House Cup, an award created this year to recognize contributions made during an academic year. These contributions include learning materials submitted, member comments, learning assignments, activity sheets and personal collections. “One of the great things about being so closely involved with creating the management division is the opportunity to review and investigate some terrific learning objects for students,” says Gilbert. MERLOT ‘s strategic goal, as stated on its Web site, is to “improve the effectiveness of learning and teaching by increasing the quantity and quality of peer-reviewed online learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty-designed courses.” Gilbert has been a reviewer for MERLOT since 2005 and an associate editor for its International Division since 2006. She shares the House Cup with Theresa Flaherty, James Madison University; Jim Formosa, Pellissippi State Technical College; Michelle Kunz, Morehead State University; Susan Moncada, Indiana State University; Ron Purser, San Francisco State University; Bob Sproule, University of Waterloo; and Cathy Swift, California State University. To view some of the Web-based online teaching and learning materials categorized by discipline and available through MERLOT, go to www.merlot.org.
