[150] ‘MTSU On the Record’ describes creative writing series ‘In Process’

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. —A new program designed to enable budding writers to interact with experienced, published authors is the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Claudia Barnett, a professor of English, will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, and from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.

Barnett is the creator of “In Process: A Creative Writing Event Series,” which occurs at 4:30 p.m. each Thursday afternoon through Nov. 15 in the Sam H. Ingram Building, 2269 Middle Tennessee Blvd. “In Process” is free and open to the public.

The weekly opportunity, which began on Sept. 6, brings aspiring writers and MTSU students together with accomplished authors of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, memoir and translation who are working on creative projects that the newcomers have a chance to influence with their own ideas.

“Everything that we’ve heard so far in ‘In Process’ is not published because it hasn’t actually gotten to the publisher yet, because it’s still just a word document on somebody’s computer” Barnett said. “All these questions about what makes something good are just sort of built into the series where the readers and the listeners in the room get to be the judges.”

Barnett said she hopes to offer “In Process” at MTSU each fall semester.
