MURFREESBORO, Tenn. —
As students filter onto the MTSU campus for the start of the fall semester,
they will be invited to embark on a new chapter in their civic lives, as well.
The Murfreesboro chapter of the American Association of
University Women and the American Democracy Project at MTSU will sponsor voter
registration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, on the lawn outside the
Paul W. Martin Sr. University Honors College building.
The registration collaboration will be repeated on campus on Constitution
Day, Monday, Sept. 17, and on the last day of voter registration in Tennessee,
Tuesday, Oct. 9.
According to the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement, 44.5
percent of MTSU students voted in 2016, a .5 percent increase from 2012. The
2016 voting rate for all institutions of higher learning participating in the
study was 50.4 percent.
