[058] MTSU provides opportunity for voter registration on first day of fall semester

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — As students filter onto the MTSU campus for the start of the fall semester, they will be invited to embark on a new chapter in their civic lives, as well.

The Murfreesboro chapter of the American Association of University Women and the American Democracy Project at MTSU will sponsor voter registration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, on the lawn outside the Paul W. Martin Sr. University Honors College building.

The registration collaboration will be repeated on campus on Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, and on the last day of voter registration in Tennessee, Tuesday, Oct. 9.

According to the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement, 44.5 percent of MTSU students voted in 2016, a .5 percent increase from 2012. The 2016 voting rate for all institutions of higher learning participating in the study was 50.4 percent.
