MURFREESBORO, Tenn. —
MTSU’s Keith M. Huber is the invited keynote speaker for Nashville’s Memorial Day ceremony this
weekend.
Huber, senior adviser for veterans and leadership
initiatives, will speak during the 2
p.m. Sunday, May 28, ceremony at the Middle
Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, in Nashville.
Memorial Day is Monday, May 29.
The Memorial Day ceremony is an annual tradition in
Nashville as the city recognizes those who have served their country. The
public is invited.
A link to the ceremony agenda is available at http://tn.gov/veteran/article/middle-tennessee-state-veterans-cemetery-memorial-day-2017.
Huber is a retired lieutenant general who served nearly 40
years in the U.S. Army. The Franklin, Tennessee, resident has been a guiding
force behind the establishment of the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and
Military Family Center at MTSU.
Huber was invited to speak by MTSU alumnus John Furgess (Class of 1965), a
Nashville resident who is vice chairman of the Davidson County Veterans
Coordinating Council. Furgess, who is master of ceremonies, will introduce
Huber.
Furgess was one of the early organizers for what has become
the 36th annual MTSU Salute
to Veterans and Armed Forces game, with events centered around an MTSU Blue Raiders home football game. This
year’s game — MTSU against the University of Texas-El Paso — will be played
Saturday, Nov. 4. All veterans, their families and current military personnel
are invited.
The Nashville Memorial Day ceremony agenda includes the
reading of names starting at 11 a.m., a wreath presentation, the firing team
salute and taps, retirement of colors and more.
A reception will follow at VFW Post 1970, 7220 Charlotte
Pike, in Nashville.
The Memorial Day ceremony is presented by the Davidson
County Veterans Coordinating Council and Tennessee Department of Veterans
Services.
