MURFREESBORO — An
MTSU graduate who is putting her degree to use to promote her hometown will be
the guest on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Cambre Godwin, co-creator
of the inaugural Village Jubilee & Festival, will air from 9:30 to 10 p.m.
Tuesday, May 23, and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 28, on WMOT-FM Roots Radio
89.5 and www.wmot.org.
Godwin, a 2016 alumna with a degree in leisure, sport and
tourism studies, teamed with her friend Georgia Claire Varble to create the
celebration. Their goal is to raise public awareness of the virtues of
Hampshire, Tennessee, an unincorporated hamlet west of Columbia, Tennessee,
along the western edge of Maury County.
“I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a community that comes together
so often to help each other and just spend time together,” said Godwin. “So I
think that’s why we’re so special, and I think that’s why we want to welcome
more people into that kind of community.”
Godwin said the Village Jubilee & Festival will include
offerings by local artists, organic farms and food vendors, as well as a
petting zoo, live music, face painting and a “bounce house.” The local
restaurant will smoke its own barbecue, and the local general store and museum
will be open.
Hampshire, Tennessee, is located along state Route 99, which
overlaps with U.S. Highway 412. It has a population of some 1,400 people.
