MURFREESBORO — The
plight of foster children grappling with their sexual identity will be the
topic of the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Justin Bucchio, an
assistant professor of social work, will air from 8 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14,
and from 6 to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, on WMOT-FM/Roots Radio 89.5 and www.wmot.org.
Bucchio, who was a foster child himself, and his colleague,
social work professor Barbara Turnage, presented a paper on what potential
caretakers of LGBT foster and adopted children need to know in March 2016 at
the National Youth-at-Risk Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
“A lot of the work that I am taking part in is being able to
work with foster parents in training endeavors to provide them with a solid set
of skills and education so that, when youth are coming out to them, they know
how to react appropriately,” said Bucchio.
