MTSU president among recipients
of Rutherford County Impact Award
MURFREESBORO — MTSU
President Sidney A. McPhee was among 28 recipients of the Nashville Business
Journal’s Rutherford County Impact Awards, presented Wednesday during an awards
luncheon hosted by the publication at Embassy Suites Hotel.
McPhee, who also won the award last year, is in his 13th
year as MTSU’s president and has presided over a period of tremendous growth at
the university. In a Q&A with the NBJ, McPhee pointed to MTSU as Rutherford
County’s secret weapon within economic development.
“We generate millions upon millions of direct and indirect
dollars to the area's economy. And, with 60 percent of our graduates living in
the Greater Nashville area, we help provide area employers with an educated
workforce.”
MTSU first lady Elizabeth McPhee accepted the award on
behalf of her husband, who is on a business trip in China and was unable to
attend.
For the past two years, the Business Journal has honored
leaders, community supporters, business owners and developers “who are leading
the charge for improvements and economic development for Rutherford County.”
To select this year’s honorees, the NBJ solicited nominees, who then voted on each other to
determine the winners. The Rutherford County honorees are featured in a special
section of the May 23 Nashville
Business Journal print edition.
