Sept. 4 ‘Black Holes and Warped Space’ Lecture
Kicks Off Fall First Friday Star Party Schedule


(MURFREESBORO) — MTSU Physics and Astronomy instructor Jana Ruth Ford will discuss “Black Holes and Warped Space” starting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4, kicking off the fall 2009 First Friday Star Party schedule for the department.

The talk will be held in Wiser-Patten Science Hall Room 102 and outside the building, department officials said. Ford will have a 30- to 45-minute public lecture followed by outdoor telescope observing (weather permitting).

Other scheduled Star Parties include Dr. Chuck Higgins’ “Atmospheric Fireworks: Aurorae in the Solar System” Oct. 2; Dr. Eric Klumpe’s “400 Years after Galileo: How Our View of the Universe Changed” Nov. 6 and instructor Jeff Gritton’s “Binary Stars: Strange Star Dances” Dec. 4.

The general public and MTSU faculty, staff and students are invited to the free event. Children are welcome. Free Star Party parking will be available behind WPS after 4:30 p.m. Friday only.

Directions to parking and the event site: At the intersection of Baird Street and Main Street, take Baird to MTSU campus. Turn right at stop sign onto Blue Raider Drive. Turn left onto Friendship Street. Continue past entrances to first set of parking lots. At curve in road, turn left into parking lot. WPS Hall is the second building at the northwest corner of the parking lot. Please park only in areas designated for parking. Handicap parking requires a valid state permit.
