MTSU PROFESSOR EMERITUS JACK TURNER SETS PUBLIC READING NOV. 10
First Novel in Author’s Trilogy Set in Called the “Kentucky ‘Gone with the Wind’”

(MURFREESBORO)—Jack Justin Turner, author of the newly released The Foxes and the Hounds, Volume One, Big Medicine River Days, will present a free and open reading from the novel at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at the MTSU Foundation House, 324 W. Thompson Lane.
A political science professor at MTSU for 35 years, Turner is a native of Maytown, Ky., and his latest title from Chestnut Hill Publishing, is the second installment in the author’s current trilogy. Called the “Kentucky Gone With the Wind” and “the great Kentucky novel,” The Foxes and the Hounds follows the lives of four young people, two men and two women, as they set out to make their way through Kentucky during days of upheaval.
According to the author’s publisher, Turner succeeds in depicting a rich and authentic world, Appalachia, which “has in many ways been hidden and misunderstood for years through stereotypes and false reporting.” It is a world that Turner “has researched meticulously over the course of 20 years, sifting through dusty attics and courthouse records, holding conversations with and reading documents provided by sources long gone but … never to be forgotten,” thanks to the author.
Per Turner, “The Foxes and the Hounds can be read in several different ways. In one way, it is an exploration of Kentucky during its most tumultuous days. In another, it is the story of two young men of sharply contracting natures. But for me, it is above all, an enduring love story.”
Turner will be the featured guest on “MTSU On the Record,” a 30-minute radio program, with host Gina Logue, that will air at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, on WMOT FM/Jazz 89. He will discuss his new novel during the broadcast, which is also webcast at the same time via www.wmot.org.
A reception for Turner also will be part of the Nov. 10 reading event, which will include a book signing. Prior to his current book/trilogy, Turner also authored the novel titled The Sheriffs’ Murder Cases and Big Medicine.
