[440] Graduating student veterans to be honored at MTSU spring Stole Ceremony April 13

MURFREESBORO — With a record number of graduating student veteran attendees anticipated, the spring MTSU Stole Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Cantrell Hall of the Tom H. Jackson Building.

The public is invited. A searchable campus parking map is available at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap. Visitors attending the event should obtain a special one-day permit from MTSU’s Office of Parking and Transportation at http://www.mtsu.edu/parking/visit.php and click on “Guest Account.”

Starting with the first Stole Ceremony in May 2015, MTSU began to honor its graduating veterans with a formal ceremony in front of family, friends, visitors and university administrators. They receive red stoles to wear during May graduation.

Out of 114 student veterans who are expected to graduate in May, nearly 50 of the student veterans are planning to attend the special ceremony, said Hilary Miller, director of the MTSU Veterans and Military Family Center.

Keith M. Huber, MTSU senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives and retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, will oversee the ceremony.

MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and Provost Brad Bartel will provide comments.

For May commencement, MTSU begins a new tradition with a separate ceremony for graduates from the College of Graduate Studies Friday, May 6. Two commencement ceremonies for graduating seniors will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7.  For more information, visit http://www.mtsunews.com/graduation-info/.
