MURFREESBORO — Maj.
Gen. Jeffery H. Holmes will be guest speaker for the Department of Military
Science ROTC spring commissioning ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8.
The public is invited to the event, which will be held at
the MTSU Veterans Memorial site outside the Tom H. Jackson Building, 628 Alma

Thirteen cadets will be commissioned as second lieutenants
during the ceremony.
Holmes serves as deputy adjutant general of the Tennessee
National Guard. He is responsible to the adjutant
general, Maj. Gen. Terry M. “Max” Haston, for the supervision of training and
readiness for the 14,000-plus soldiers and airmen within the Tennessee National
Guard. Haston is an alumnus of MTSU and the military science program.
Holmes also serves as the assistant for
reserve affairs with the U.S. Army chief of engineers in Washington, D.C.
Those duties include assisting the
chief of engineers in carrying out his responsibilities to the Army Chief of
Staff and serve as the senior Army National Guard engineer representative to the
chief of engineers.
The ceremony will mark the final public event for U.S. Army
Lt. Col. Joel Miller, the department chair. After a three-year stint as program
leader, he will be an assistant professor in the history department at the U.S.
Military Academy in West Point, New York.
