Blue Raider sports fans are invited to
Thursday’s grand re-opening of the new look Murphy Center as work wraps up on
$12.64 million in renovations and needed upgrades as part of the University’s Master
Plan.
The Middle Tennessee men's and women's basketball teams will
participate in “Murphy Madness” Thursday, Oct. 30, to showcase the new
lighting, concessions, restrooms and improved climate control inside Monte Hale
Arena.
Murphy Madness will serve as a basketball tip-off celebration for
the 2014-15 seasons, highlighting both Blue Raider basketball teams. The event
begins at 5:30 p.m. with trunk-or-treat for youngsters on the concourse.
“We are excited about this event and the opportunity for our fans to
get a first-hand look at the outstanding renovations to Murphy Center,” Middle
Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro said.
“I believe our fans are going to enjoy the fresh look with the new
lighting and sound system and the upgrades that have been made to our
concession and restroom areas. Murphy Center has always been a great facility
for our basketball teams and these improvements will only enhance the fan
experience.”
Final construction work will continue on concession stands and
ticket offices, which will be open before the first games of the new season,
according to Campus Planning officials. The concession stands will feature
digital televisions as menus.
Another noticeable addition is the automatic blinds installed on the
east, west and south sides of the arena that will help prevent glare and sun
spots during day games. Fans should also notice comfortable temperatures
courtesy of the new HVAC system.
Not seen, but sorely needed, is the new roof on Murphy Center, which
opened in 1972. Also unseen will be the waffle ceiling, which is no more.
In addition to MTSU’s Athletic Department and the Murphy Center
Complex, Murphy Center also houses offices and classrooms for the Department of
Health and Human Performance.
Any fan with questions may contact the MTSU Athletic Department at
