MURFREESBORO — The
first True Blue Experience Day of the fall and 2014-15 academic year will
emphasize the sciences.
In particular, the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and
its 11 departments and the new Science Building will be front and center.
All prospective students interested in the STEM (science,
technology, engineering and mathematics) areas are welcome to register to
attend the event, which begins at 9 a.m. in the Student Union. To register, visit www.mtsu.edu/rsvp.
It ends at 3 p.m. To find parking and MTSU buildings, a printable campus map can be found at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap14-15.
The True Blue Experience Day for budding scientists gives
prospective MTSU students the opportunity to talk to admissions, student
services and housing personnel, take campus and housing tours, meet with
College of Basic and Applied Sciences Dean Bud Fischer, Associate Dean Saeed
Foroudastan, college advisers and other academic and nonacademic staff.
“We always welcome students to campus,” said Jennifer
Danylo, advising manager in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences. “We have
a great new building to show off that a majority of MTSU students, regardless
of major, will take a class in.”
“There’s no better way for us to introduce ourselves and our
departments to students than have them here on campus seeing current students
and faculty in action and using the labs and classrooms that we have,” Danylo
added.
The college will have a browsing table set up for students
and their guests to gather information for all departments within the college.
Professional advisers will staff the table, Danylo said.
After the admissions portion of the program, Fischer will
speak to the group to give them insight on all departments, research and study
abroad opportunities and offer his expectations of a student pursuing a major
in the college.
When the Student Union portion of the program ends, the
prospective students and their guests will be escorted to the Science Building.
They will be met by the 11 department chairs, who will meet with the students
and take them to the chairs’ respective buildings on campus. The visitors will
see lab spaces, experimental vehicles, view lectures in progress and more.
Departments within the college include aerospace, agribusiness
and agriscience, biology, chemistry, computer science, concrete industry
management, engineering technology, geosciences, mathematical sciences,
military science, physics and astronomy.
Prospective students will have more opportunities for a firsthand
look at campus.
- The final Fall Preview Day
will be held Saturday, Nov. 1.
- Other True Blue Experience
Days will be held Jan. 23, 2015, for students in the Colleges of
Behavioral and Health Sciences and Liberal Arts; and Jan. 30 for
prospective students in the Colleges of Mass Communication, Business and
Education.
- Also, the Office of
Admissions has special Saturday tours planned for Nov. 15 and Dec. 6, with
all starting at 10 a.m. in the Student Services and Admissions Center.
