Feb. 26 deadline nears for MTSU Scholars Week abstracts

MURFREESBORO — MTSU students and faculty mentors who are preparing for the seventh annual Scholars Week 2013 must submit their abstract proposals by Tuesday, Feb. 26, said Dr. Andrienne Friedli, Undergraduate Research Center director, chemistry professor and chair of the organizing committee.

Abstracts should be submitted online via the Abstract Submission Form. The online abstract submissions will include a project title and 150- to 300-word summary of the research project. Only abstract submissions with undergraduate and graduate students as first authors will be eligible for judging and prizes.

Scholars Week will be held April 1-5. Events will include a week of department and college activities in discipline-specific venues for presentation of graduate, undergraduate and faculty scholarship.

Planned activities will include talks, readings, performances, posters, multimedia performances, as well as invited speakers and an appreciation luncheon for faculty presenters and mentors, Friedli said.

The celebration of Scholars Week will culminate in a university-wide showcase of posters, multimedia and performance on Friday, April 5, from 12:40 to 2:45 p.m. on the Murphy Center track level. A group of judges will select the winners from each of the colleges within the university.

Provost Brad Bartel serves as executive chair of the approximately 15-member Scholars Week Committee.
