MTSU WIND ENSEMBLE CONCERT FEATURES GUEST TROMBONIST
April 10 Event Will Include Tennessee Premiere of Jonathan Newman Composition

(MURFREESBORO)—The MTSU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Reed Thomas and featuring guest David Cooke on trombone, will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 10 in the T. Earl Hinton Hall of the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus in a free and open concert.
The Wind Ensemble will perform the Tennessee premiere of Jonathan Newman’s My Hands Are a City, Nino Rota’s Concerto for Trombone featuring guest artist Cooke and Michael Colgrass’s Winds of Nagual, among others.
Trombonist Cooke began his musical studies at the age of 9 and received a B.M. in trombone performance from Ohio State University and a master’s degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Columbus Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He is principal trombonist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. He serves as conductor of the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne Community Orchestra and the Fort Wayne Summer Symphony.
As a chamber musician, Cooke was the founding member of the critically acclaimed Cleveland Chamber Brass. He is a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Brass Quintet and the Fort Wayne Chamber Brass. He has served as instructor of trombone at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne since 1989.
