Public Invited and Encouraged to Attend Free One-Night-Only Event
(MURFREESBORO)—Professional actor and mime Bill Bowers will visit the MTSU campus Oct. 23 to perform his critically acclaimed off-Broadway play titled “It Goes Without Saying” beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Tucker Theatre.
Described as “zestful and endearing” by the New York Times and “surprisingly engaging” and “winning” by the New York Post, “It Goes Without Saying” is a 75-minute joyride in which Bowers “shares funny, heartbreaking and unbelievable true stories from both his career and his lifelong exploration of the role silence plays in all our lives,” observes Jeff Gibson, assistant professor, speech and theatre.
The one-night-only performance by Bowers—who also will teach a master class about the art of mime and discuss career planning with MTSU students enrolled in Theatre Senior Seminar—is free of charge and open to the public.
As an actor and a mime, Bowers has performed throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. He appeared on Broadway as Zazu in Disney's “The Lion King” and as Leggett in “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” His original mime shows, “'Night Sweetheart, 'Night Buttercup” and “Under A Montana Moon,” have been produced off-Broadway and received critical raves.
Having studied with Marcel Marceau, a mime of legendary renown, Bowers has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in America, including Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, The Kennedy Center and regional theaters nationwide. His television credits include “Law and Order,” “One Life to Live, “All My Children, “Remember W.E.N.N.” and Disney's “Out of the Box.” He also was featured in “Two Weeks Notice,” a film Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant.
The recipient of a master of fine arts from Rutgers University and an honorary Ph.D. from Rocky Mountain College, Bowers’ MTSU stopover and performance is funded in part by the Distinguished Lecture Series.
