MURFREESBORO — MTSU’s
third consecutive study-abroad course in Israel is the topic of the next
edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program.
Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Karen Petersen,
associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday,
Jan. 19, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and www.wmot.org).
“The Politics of Being ‘Israel’ from Abraham to Modern
Democracy” is slated for July 14 to 24, but the deadline for applying for
MTSU’s study-abroad scholarships is Feb. 4.
Airfare, lodging, transportation and most meals are included
in the estimated cost of $4,350 to $4,950. The itinerary will include
Jerusalem, Galilee, Masada and the Dead Sea, among other highlights. Petersen and
Dr. Mark Byrnes, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will lead the course.
“Strikingly, I think that the one thing that all the
students tell me is that they cannot believe how different it is from what they
see on television and what the media portray Israel to be,” Petersen said.
