MURFREESBORO — MTSU is giving supporters a
chance to watch the President’s Opening Ceremonies online this Saturday
afternoon, Aug. 23, if they can’t attend in person.
Special
live streaming video of the event, which is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday
inside MTSU’s Floyd Stadium, will be available by visiting http://ow.ly/ABXYT shortly before the ceremonies begin.
This
special page links to the video stream, which will begin about 15 minutes
before the event starts. It also provides technical support for users watching
the event.
MTSU
officials made major modifications this year to University Convocation and the
President’s Picnic, two primary Week of Welcome activities that usher in the
new academic year each fall, because of ongoing renovations to Murphy Center.
Instead of
the traditional Convocation ceremony that features faculty and administrators
in full academic regalia, MTSU has planned “a decidedly less formal opening ceremony
for our newest students” in Floyd Stadium for 2014, said Dr. Deb Sells, vice
president for student affairs and vice provost for enrollment and academic
services.
The
President’s Opening Night Ceremonies will feature special guest Jay Allison and
the annual picnic. Students will sit in the stadium according to their
colleges.
Allison,
author of MTSU’s 2014 Summer Reading Program book “This I Believe,” will
address the students along with MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee, Student
Government Association President Andrew George and Sells.
