‘Coney Island: 40 Years’ on exhibit at MTSU’s Baldwin Photo Gallery

MURFREESBORO—A new exhibit, “Coney Island: 40 Years,” is on display through Thursday, Oct. 20, at MTSU’s Baldwin Photographic Gallery.

Photographer Harvey Stein first turned his lens on New York’s beachfront amusement park in 1970, capturing history, nostalgia and memories in a black-and-white series that documents an iconic American place. The Baldwin Gallery exhibit features photos from Stein’s published collection, Coney Island: 40 Years.

Stein, an award-winning photographer, author, educator, curator and lecturer, is director of photography at the Umbrella Arts Gallery in New York City and has had his photos exhibited worldwide as well as included in 50 museums and private collections. He teaches at the International Center of Photography in New York City and also conducts major photo workshops across the United States.

Stein will lecture on his work on Monday, Sept. 19, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the State Farm Lecture Hall of MTSU’s Business and Aerospace Building. A reception will follow in the Baldwin Gallery; both are free and open to the public.

Baldwin Photographic Gallery is located in the McWherter Learning Resources Center, and its operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. All photo exhibitions are free and open to the public.
