(MURFREESBORO)—Guest bassoon artist Jenny Mann will be joined by Kevin Chance on piano in a free public recital set for 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Hinton Hall of the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus.
The University of Alabama duo will perform “Tarantella” by Ludwig Milde, “Six Studies in English Folk Song” by R. Vaughan Williams and “Sonata for Bassoon and Piano by Camille Saint-Saën,” and Mann will perform “Partita for Solo Bassoon.”
"The Saint-Saens Sonata is one of the capstone pieces for bassoon repertoire. It will be a fantastic finale,” said Maya Stone, professor of bassoon at MTSU.
Mann is assistant professor of bassoon at the University of Alabama. She also is principal bassoonist with the Tuscaloosa Symphony and is an active performer in both surrounding orchestras and chamber ensembles. Mann also is a member of the Cavell Reed Trio and Capstone Woodwind Quintet, who perform around the country and are committed to the commissioning of new works for the genre as well as educational outreach for young minds.
Pianist Chance joined the University of Alabama faculty in January of 2010 as instructor of piano, teaching class piano and serving as the principal collaborative pianist in the choral and voice areas and as a coach in the Opera Theatre. He has performed throughout the United States and abroad as both soloist and collaborator, including concerto appearances with the Magic City Orchestra of Alabama and the Brevard Music Center and as a featured performer in the 2003 Lake District Summer Music Festival in England. Chance has been a prizewinner of several regional and national competitions including the National Society of Arts and Letters Career Awards Competition, Music Teachers National Association Competitions and the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition.
