[236] MTSU Fraternity and Sorority Life donates $2,478 to The Journey Home

Middle Tennessee State University's Fraternity and Sorority Liferecently donated $2,478.17 to local nonprofit The Journey Home following a fun fundraising effort earlier in the semester.

The money was raised through a three-day collection in September called “Crash the Commons Change Wars.”

In Change Wars, chapters competed against each other to raise the most points, but more point value being given metal coins vs. deductions for paper bills. Teams competed to put change in their own bucket to get positive points while dropping bills in others to count as negative points.

"It is a fun way to bring out the competitive spirit of our groups all while raising money for a great, local cause," said Leslie Merritt, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

The winning team of Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi chose to give all of the funds raised in Change Wars to The Journey Home on behalf of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

The Journey Home is a Christian-based community outreach whose primary focus is to serve the homeless and disadvantaged of Rutherford County.
